New Water Shortages in Zimbabwean Capital Prompt Cholera Outbreak Fears

17 November 2009

Water shortages have resurfaced in parts of Harare, raising fears of another outbreak of cholera with seasonal rains washing contaminants into alternative local sources.

Sources said Harare suburbs including Glen Norah, Budiriro, Warren Park and Glen View have been without water for a week and residents have been drawing water from shallow wells.

Harare Deputy Mayor Emmanuel Chiroto told VOA Studio 7 reporter Patience Rusere that current shortages are due to electric power outages, not water system failures.
