Japanese share prices ended higher Friday, while the dollar slipped against the yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index gained half a percent , to close at 9,514.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 80.07 yen, down three-tenths of a yen from late Thursday.

Gold was trading at $1,543.92 an ounce.
