中國報告最新禽流感疫情獲得控制 (China Reports Latest Bird Flu Outbreak Under Control)

中國說，西北部的新疆地區最近發生的禽流感疫情目前已經得到控制。中國官方新華社星期二報導說，沒有發生人類感染禽流感病毒的報告。新華社說，同病雞有過接觸的農民經過隔離檢疫，沒有發現有感染禽流感的症狀。

新華社援引有關官員的話說，較暖和的氣候使當地更有可能爆發禽流感，因為候鳥逗留的時間超過了通常情況。在吐魯番市爆發的禽流感事件中，有將近5000只禽鳥死亡。當局又宰殺了3萬5千隻家禽來控制病毒傳播。

政府一家實驗室證實，這些禽鳥感染了致命的H5N1型病毒。世界衛生組織說，禽流感病毒在全球已經奪去了200多人的生命。

China says a recent outbreak of avian flu in the northwestern Xinjiang region is now under control. Official Chinese news agency Xinhua reported Tuesday that there were no reported human cases. Xinhua said farmers who were in contact with infected chickens were put under quarantine, but have not shown symptoms of the disease.

Xinhua quoted officials saying that the warmer weather made outbreaks in the area more likely because migratory birds are staying longer than usual. Nearly five-thousand birds died in the outbreak in the city of Turpan. Authorities killed a further 35-thousand birds to control its spread.

A government laboratory confirmed that the birds were infected by the deadly H5N1 strain of the virus. The World Health Organization says the virus has killed more than 200 people worldwide.

中國外交部長訪南非擴展雙邊關係 (Chinese FM in South Africa to Expand Bilateral Ties)

中國外交部長楊潔篪星期一抵達南非，開始為期2天的訪問，以紀念兩國建交10週年，並拓展雙邊關係。在訪問期間，楊潔篪計劃會晤南非外長恩科薩扎娜.德拉米尼.祖馬，就共同關心的雙邊與國際議題交換意見。

南非是楊潔篪本次非洲四國之行的第一站。他還將訪問剛果民主共和國、蒲隆地和衣索比亞。

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi arrived in South Africa Monday for a two-day visit to mark the 10th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and expand bilateral ties. During his stay, Yang is scheduled to meet with his South African counterpart, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, to exchange views on bilateral and international issues of common interest.

South Africa is the first stop on Yang's four-nation Africa tour that will also take him to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi and Ethiopia.
