Russian air traffic controllers refused to let a German military flight pass through Russian airspace Wednesday. The plane had to turn back to Berlin.
The plane was taking German troops and supplies to the Termez air base in Uzbekistan, which is used by NATO to support its force in Afghanistan.
German media report that the military aircraft had diplomatic clearance to fly over Russia on Tuesday, but the flight was delayed, and the clearance expired.

The Georgian parliament has approved the lifting of the country's week-long national state of emergency Friday evening. Parliament speaker Nino Burjanadze announced the decision, saying the country is no longer in danger.
President Mikhail Saakashvili issued the emergency decree last week, after six days of mass protests in Tbilisi that culminated in clashes with police. The decree banned public demonstrations and all independent newscasts.
