Leaders of the 21 members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum have opened a two-day summit in South Korea, while protests outside the talks have turned violent.
APEC members are calling on the European Union to show flexibility in global trade talks. Speaking Friday in Busan, South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon said Asia-Pacific leaders have agreed that EU action is vital to success at next month's World Trade Organization talks in Hong Kong.
The leaders of Australia and Thailand also made similar remarks today.
