中國說絕大多數錯案源於警察折磨 (China Says Almost All Wrongful Convictions Result From Police Torture)

中國副檢察長王振川承認，最近幾年出現的刑事錯案中，幾乎每一個被誤判的刑事被告都遭受過刑訊逼供。中國官方新華社援引王振川的話說，每年至少有30個人因刑訊逼供而被誤判，而實際數字可能更大。

中國高級檢察官員一直在發起一項活動，制止警察使用非法審訊方式，迫使刑事犯罪嫌疑人認罪的做法。今年3月，北京制定了新的指導原則，要求警察在涉及謀殺和團夥暴力等重大案件中對所有的審訊進行錄音和錄影。

聯合國一名特別調查員說，刑訊逼供的現象在中國有所下降，但是依然很普遍。

China's Deputy Chief Prosecutor, Wang Zhenchuan, has acknowledged that almost every defendant wrongfully convicted of a crime in recent years was tortured to extract a confession. China's official Xinhua news agency quotes Wang Zhenchuan as saying that at least 30 people every year are wrongfully convicted because of torture, and the actual number could be higher.

China's top prosecutors have been leading a campaign to crack down on police who use illegal interrogation methods to get confessions of guilt from suspected criminals. In March, Beijing introduced new guidelines that require police to make audio and video recordings of all interrogations involving major cases, such as murder and gang violence.

A special U.N. investigator has said torture is on the decline in China, but remains widespread.

布希會見印度尼西亞領導人 (President Bush Meets Indonesian Leader)

美國總統布希讚揚尤多約諾總統對印度尼西亞這樣一個“多元化大國”的領導。兩位領導人星期一在印尼渡假勝地茂物的夏宮進行會晤。兩位領導人說，他們就北韓、伊朗和中東等國際問題進行了討論。

布希總統說，他們都認為六方會談是解決眼下北韓核爭端的最佳方式。他還說，他們決心消滅恐怖主義。

President Bush has praised Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for leading what he calls a "large and diverse" nation. The two leaders met Monday at the summer palace in Indonesia's resort of Bogor. The leaders say they discussed international issues, such as North Korea, Iran and the Middle East.

President Bush said they agreed that the six-party talks were the best way to end the current conflict involving North Korea's nuclear program. He also said that they are determined to bring an end to terrorism.
