美國表示和中國有許多共同的全球目標(U.S. Says It Shares Many Global Goals With China)

一名美國高級官員說，美國和中國討論了在伊拉克、阿富汗、伊朗和北韓等問題上進行合作的途徑。

美國副國務卿佐立克在華盛頓和中國副外長戴秉國進行兩天的會談之後說，美中兩國儘管有時候政策不同，但是政策目標可以是相同的。

佐立剋星期四在聲明中說，他和戴秉國討論了兩國的共同利益，包括打擊恐怖主義、防止大規模殺傷性武器擴散和減少流行病爆發的危險。

A senior U.S. official says the United States and China have discussed ways of working together on such issues as Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran and North Korea.

Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick said after two days of discussions in Washington with China's vice foreign minister, Dai Bingguo, the countries can pursue the same policy goals without always pursuing the same policies.

來自中國華南廣東省的報導說，星期一武警在一個村子對抗議民眾開槍並打死至少兩人之後把村子封鎖了起來。

目擊者說，警察星期二晚些時候對東洲村的一群人開火，當時至少有一千人在場抗議政府建發電廠徵地補貼不夠。

當地居民說，中國當局已經包圍了村子，並不許他們出村。

大赦國際亞洲部副主任形容來自廣東的報導令人“心寒”並呼籲立即進行獨立調查。

中國政府還沒有就這次事件表態。

Reports from southern China's Guangdong province say armed police have sealed off a village after opening fire on a group of protesters and killing at least two people this week.

Witnesses say police fired into a crowd late Tuesday in Dongzhou village, where at least one-thousand people were protesting inadequate compensation for land taken for the construction of a power plant.

Local residents are quoted (by Reuters and the French News agency) as saying Chinese authorities have surrounded the village and are not allowing them to leave.

The deputy Asia Director for Amnesty International (Catherine Baber) has described the reports from Guangdong as "chilling," and called for an immediate independent investigation.

The Chinese government has not commented on the matter.
