The top U.S. trade official,Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierre says China strongly objected to Washington's recent actions on intellectual property rights at the start of difficult trade talks Tuesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the meetings in Beijing of the China-U.S. Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade, Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez said China's top trade negotiator Wu Yi very strongly and directly mentioned that China objects to recent U.S. complaints to the World Trade Organization.
Gutierrez urged China to not take offense at the WTO complaints, stressing that they are a matter of business and not disrespect.
The WTO opened an investigation last month into Chinese restrictions on the sale of movies, music and books.
Also today, the United States and China signed agreements to safeguard the quality of food, feed and drugs.
