中國販毒頭被判死刑 (China Drug Boss Sentenced To Death)

中國南方廣州市一家法院判處一名大毒梟死刑。中國官方的新華社說,現年50歲的陳炳錫由於販賣並製造數噸甲基苯丙胺(冰毒)以及販運海洛因而被定罪。陳炳錫毒集團中的兩名毒販同時被判處死刑,緩期兩年執行,另外兩人被判處無期徒刑。陳炳錫的妻子被判處有期徒刑11年。

警方1999年在廣州一個倉庫中查獲了1萬1000公斤冰毒後,陳炳錫夫婦逃往泰國。他于2003年底被抓獲並遣返回中國。

A court in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou has sentenced a drug boss to death. The official Xinhua news agency says 50-year old Chen Bingxi was convicted of trafficking and manufacturing tons of methamphetamine and of trafficking and selling heroin. Two members of Chen's drug ring were also sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve, while two others received life sentences. His wife was sentenced to 11-years in prison.

Chen and his wife fled to Thailand in 1999 after police seized more than 11-thousand kilos of methamphetamine in a storehouse in Guangzhou. He was arrested and repatriated to China in late 2003.

A shark has attacked an Australian surfer near a popular beach in the southern state of Victoria, leaving him seriously injured. The 25-year old man was grabbed by his left leg as he sat on his surfboard Monday evening.

Australian surfing enthusiasts called for the shark to be hunted down and killed. But Victoria's state premier ruled out such a move, saying it was unlikely to prevent future attacks by sharks in the area.
