今天我們要講兩個和藍顏色，也就是英語裏的 blue 這個字有關的成語。在日常生活中，blue是一個非常口語的詞彙，美國人經常使用。它的意思就是情緒很低。正因為如此，blues 這個字就成了爵士音樂裏面的一種。稱謂 blues 的這種爵士音樂，它的特點是節奏慢，曲調很低沉。
在日常會話中，要是你對一個朋友說: "I really have the blues today." 這就是說，你今天因為某種原因情緒很不好。
現在，我們先來講一個和 blue 有關的俗語：singing the blues。Singing 的原動詞是sing，就是唱歌、唱戲的唱。Singing the blues 的意思就是訴苦、抱怨。請聽下面這個例子：
例句-1: "Every time I ask Joe to pay back the money he borrowed from me, he sings the blues about all the things at home he needs money for."
這人說：“每當我要喬還他借我的錢的時候，他總是訴苦，說他家裏有多少開支。”
換句話說，就是喬用訴說家裏的種種困難來做藉口，設法不還他欠的錢。我們再來舉個例子：

下面我們要介紹的另一個俗語是 like a bolt out of the blue。Bolt 是閃電，blue 在這兒是指藍色的天空。 Like a bolt out of the blue 的意思就是晴天霹靂，也就是出乎意外、沒料想到。有時，你花幾個小時也解不開一道數學題。可是，當你不再去想它的時候，你腦子裏突然出現了答案。人們還經常用 like a bolt out of the blue 來形容車禍。請聽下面這句句子：
例句-3: "A driver may testify that he was going the normal speed limit when a truck appeared in front of him out of the blue and he did not have time to stop."
這句話的意思是：“一個開車的人可能會在作證時說，正當他以正常的速度行駛的時候，一輛卡車突然出現在他面前，他來不及剎車。”
我們再聽聽下面這個學生講的話:
例句-4: "The announcement that the president of our university was quitting to go to another school hit us like a bolt out of the blue. He's always said he liked it here so much he would stay until he retired."
