今天我們要給大家介紹兩個美國人經常用來指好朋友的字。大家可能都已經很熟悉英文裏的friend這個字，friend的意思就是朋友。但是，美國人還有一些比較口語化的說法。一個很普遍的字就是：buddy。Buddy這個字在軍隊裏特別普遍，但是一般平民用的也非常多。Buddy這個字已經有一百五十多年的歷史了，它是來自brother這個字，因此，buddy這個字可以說是指那些和你親如兄弟一樣的朋友。比如說，一個曾經參加過越南戰爭的美國退伍軍人難以忘懷他在戰爭中的經歷，他說：
例句-1: What sticks most in my mind is all the good buddies I saw killed there. I'll remember their faces as long as I live, because they were like brothers to me.
這位退伍軍人說：在我腦子裏印象最深的是那些我親眼看到被殺害的好朋友。我這一輩子也忘不了他們的臉，因為他們就像是我的親兄弟一樣。
Buddy這個表示好朋友的字是不分男女的。下面這個例子就是一個男學生在說他一位要好的女朋友：
例句-2: Sally and I don't have any romantic interest in each other. We're just good buddies who come from the same town and enjoy having a cup of coffee and talking about people we both know.
他說：我和莎莉都沒有談情說愛的意思。我們是同鄉，也是好朋友。我們喜歡在一起喝杯咖啡，談談大家認識的人而已。

美國口語裏還另外有一個指好朋友的字，那就是：sidekick。Sidekick是指那些非常忠實的朋友，每當你需要的時候，他們總會在你身邊幫忙的。
下面是一個準備參加同學會的人說的話:
例句-3: I'm really looking forward to the tenth reunion of the class of 1983. For one thing it's a chance to see my old sidekick Billy Bob. We roomed together, played side by side on the football team--well, he was my best buddy back in the good old days.
這個人說：我真是迫不及待地想去參加83屆的第十次同學會。這是我見到老朋友比利鮑伯的一個機會。我和他那時住在一個房間裏，在足球隊裏一起踢球，他真是我當年最好的朋友。
我們下面再來舉個例子：
例句-4: In the old cowboy movies I used to see as a boy, all the heroes had a sidekick. The sidekick was never as smart or handsome or brave as the hero but he was always there to help out in times of danger.
這個人說：在我小時候看的那些西部電影裏，所有的英雄人物都有一個親密的朋友。而這個朋友總是沒有那個英雄那麼聰明、英俊和勇敢，但是每當發生危險的時候，他總是在那裏全力相助。
