Obama Elected President

05/11/2008

Reports from across the United States and from Paris to Addis Ababa by VOA・s Amharic service brought Ethiopia complete state-by-state coverage of Sen. Barack Obama・s stunning and historic electoral victory to become the first black President of the United States.

VOA reporters filed live reports from Democratic and Republican national headquarters in the nation・s capital and Ethiopian-American resident Malafia gave listeners an eye-witness account of the celebration as U.S. media declared the Illinois senator the next President of the United States.

Other special Morning Show coverage by Voice of America・s broadcast staff included analysis from political experts, voter views from the polling stations of Maryland and a feature from the battleground state of Virginia where taxi drivers from Ethiopia whose passion for democracy drove them to offered free rides to anyone in northern Virginia who wanted to vote.
