In a separate account
from the Ethiopian News Agency, the government claims that OLF central committee
member Legesse Wegi was killed Wednesday in fighting in Wollega.
Dawud could not
confirm the reported death of Legesse.
Following Ethiopian
government media accounts of the arrest of more than a dozen alleged leaders of
the rebel Oromo Liberation Front in Addis, OLF chairman Dawud Ebsa told Namo Dandi
of the Afan Oromo service that he does not know who was arrested in Addis on
Wednesday. Dawud spoke from OLF
headquarters in neighboring Eritrea.
Ethiopian Television
broadcast footage late Wednesday night of some individuals identified as men captured
along with a collection of assault rifles.
Dawud told VOA he saw the television coverage but does not recognize any
of the men he saw on television. When ENA reported the
death of Legesse they claimed he was linked to the bombings of two NOC gas
stations and a mini-bus taxi in Addis in recent months.
The National Intelligence Security Service
and the Federal Police have cooperated on an anti-terrorist sweep of the city
that began on Wednesday.
