Hong Kong supermarkets are removing potato wasabi crackers produced by Silang House and Heinz baby cereal from their shelves after the announcement today (Friday).

Earlier today, the makers of China's famous (White Rabbit) candy halted all domestic sales over concerns the sweets contain the industrial chemical melamine. Exports of the candy have been recalled from more than 50 countries.

Milk tainted with melamine has sickened at least 53-thousand children in mainland China.

Officials in Taiwan today said three children and one mother on the island were hospitalized after drinking Chinese milk products.

It is not yet clear whether the products were tainted with melamine.

A growing number of governments in Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East have either banned or recalled Chinese-made products containing milk since the scandal broke two weeks ago.
