Nepalese police detained dozens of Tibetan exiles protesting in front of the Chinese diplomatic mission in Katmandu on Thursday.

Police in Nepal have detained at least 120 Tibetan exiles who were protesting outside the Chinese embassy in Kathmandu.

The protesters chanted anti-China slogans and called for Tibetan independence as they gathered in Nepal's capital. 

Last week, nearly two thousand Tibetan exiles, including monks, nuns and children held a protest rally in Kathmandu to coincide with the closing ceremony of the Olympics in Beijing, China.

Tibetan exiles in both Nepal and India have been staging near-daily protests since March, when deadly clashes broke out between protesters and Chinese authorities in Tibet.

Arrested Tibetan protesters in Katmandu are generally freed the same day.
