The earthquake in China has generated worldwide sympathy for the country and virtually put an end to the otherwise widespread media coverage of the crises in Tibet. Furthermore, the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in Dharamsala have called on Tibetans to halt protests at Chinese embassies, and instead have asked them to hold prayer services and offer earthquake relief donations.

While there is a natural sympathy for the human tragedy, many Tibetans have disagreed with the call to halt protests as the repression in Tibet is still ongoing and the plans to parade the Olympic torch in Tibet is still continuing, unabated by the political tensions throughout the region.

To discuss these issues, Kunleng invites Kalsang Tsering, secretary of Tibetan Association of New York and New Jersey, and Ven. Ngawang Dorje, the founder and resident teacher of the Tashi Choling Buddhist Learning Center, Charlottesville.
